Personalised Tutoring Service

Spaces now available for January 2026!

Discover is our personalised tutoring service, which presents a unique opportunity for students to develop in a fully bespoke and individualised learning environment. Discover is aimed at students who may find a mainstream setting difficult due to SEND, SEMH or trauma-related challenges.

When enrolling on Discover, students will be taught by qualified teachers who customise learning to align with their interests and passions, and provide sessions that are student-centred, practical and interactive.

As part of The Platform Project, the Discover programme can offer tutoring in Maths and English for GCSEs, Functional Skills or just a general catch-up in line with Key Stages 3 and 4, suitable for ages 11-16 years.

The aim of Discover is to re-engage young people into formal learning in a fun and supportive environment. Discover offers an alternative provision for young people who would benefit from:

·      Qualified teachers

·      Practical learning

·      Activities linked to personal interests

·      Working in person or online

·      Small or one-to-one sessions

Our tutors bring a wealth of experience from different educational settings and creatively design a personalised programme which will align with the curriculum and integrate key skills and learning into activities which students enjoy.

Students who have missed large sections of learning or cannot access a mainstream setting, often fall behind their peers in terms of their ability to sit exams and achieve qualifications before leaving school. These are also often students who delight in engaging in less traditional activities such design, cooking, games, publishing, and debates, all of which is on offer on the Discover programme.

Typically, students who enrol on Discover and take the GCSE or Functional Skills pathway will sit exams with their home school but there may the option for young people to sit a Functional Skills exam at The Platform Project at an additional cost. We have a 100% pass rate for our students, who have sat GCSE and Functional Skills exams at school.

We accept referrals from schools and local authorities, and private referrals from parents and carers. For more information, please see below.

  • Schools & Authorities

Discover is a new and innovative tutoring programme that can be used both independently and alongside other programmes we run here at the project. For students who access Engage or Connect Mentoring it’s a great opportunity to also add on some bolt on tutoring session in Maths and English that support your young people academically but also keeping our unique approach and style to working with young people.

What truly ignited this programme was a request from our young people! Already being in a setting where they feel safe, comfortable and want to succeed meant that if we could further support them in essential subjects like Maths and English then we would!

Discover is also the perfect tutoring programme for those young people who may struggle to learn in a mainstream setting and need more bespoke 1:1 support which can be in person in our brand-new youth development suite or online.

What others have said about us:

"The programme offering makes them unique – students don’t even realise it’s educational...

The tutoring – it’s a great addition to what they offer. We’ve used it a lot with one student. They wouldn’t have taken their GCSE’s without it."

  • Parents & Carers

Discover Tutoring is our new and innovative programme that supports young people in Maths and English GCSE preparation, Functional Skills, and general catch up for Key Stage 3 students (Year 7-9).

We work with students who have been referred in by schools or the local authority, and we can also take private bookings from parents and carers who may be home schooled or need some extra support alongside school.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does DISCOVER cost?

Discover is £50 per hour for young people who are directly booked onto the tutoring programme and not attending any other programmes that we offer. If a young person is on multiple programmes at The Platform Project, then the rate is £45 per hour.

  • How long can a young person attend DISCOVER?

We ask that students are booked onto Discover for a minimum of one term (approx. 6-7 weeks).

  • What happens after DISCOVER?

Young people will finish their time on Discover for a range of reasons. They may feel that they have had the adequate support so no longer want to receive tutoring; they may move back into a school setting; or they are ready to take their exams and move onto their next steps.

  • How is DISCOVER different to school?

Discover is different to schools due to: the 1:1 or 1:2 ratio of our sessions; the approach our amazing tutors take; the environment students learn in; and the way that we ensure it is youth led and planned, around the young person’s specific needs and interests.

  • Can we help with GCSE and A-Levels?

We do work with students to prepare them for their Maths and English GCSE’s, but at this time we are unable to support with A-levels.

  • Do you deliver Functional Skills?

Yes, we do support: Functional Skills development in Maths and English, from Entry Level to Level 2; preparation for Maths and English GCSE’s; and general catch of all subjects in Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9)

  • Are you an exam centre?

No, unfortunately we are not an exam centre for our students.

Students that work with us will either need to take their exams back in the school they are on role for or as a private candidate at an alternative centre, for example New College or Churchward, who do take private candidates.

We can however enter students to take their functional skills through a private company, but this does incur extra costs.

  • Do you offer online tutoring?

Yes, we can offer online tutoring if a student is too anxious to attend in person.
