I'm Gemma and I have been at The Platform Project for 3 years! In that time, I have been a Youth Worker, Engage Programme Lead and am currently the Engage Programme Manager! Prior to this I was a Primary School teacher for 18 years. I am so passionate about creating an environment here where young people feel relaxed and supported enough to thrive and take the lead in their own learning and business development. I want to make every young person feel valued for their unique abilities and show them how successful they can be when the environment is right for them. I LOVE my job and feel privileged to work alongside such a fantastic team and with such fabulous young people every day.

My roles have included learning and therapeutic mentoring, progressing to leadership positions, and ongoing street outreach work supporting people experiencing homelessness and complex needs including substance use and mental health challenges.
I am qualified in NLP & Coaching and I am Currently studying Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy at Terapia (4th Year).

Outline of job role: Supporting young people to regain confidence and guidance in their own abilities and to access education which meets their needs.
Qualifications: Fully trained Humanistic Integrative Person-Centred Counsellor for both adults and children/young people.
Training: Many years of counselling training to Foundation degree in Humanistic Counselling, SEND Autism Training Awareness, British Sign Language level 3, Diploma in Counselling for Children and Young People (8-18).
Experience: I have a vast amount of experience in working with young people. For years I ran 3 youth groups across Wiltshire, as an LGBTQIA+ youth support worker. I feel confident talking to young people about sexualities and gender identities. I am passionate about inclusivity for all the above and believe Deaf people should have the same access as hearing to services. I am a confident signer at British Sign Language, level 3. Throughout my working career I worked for the National Autistic Society and within SEN schools/colleges. My inclusion and passion to ensure counselling is available for all, means I have many clients who identify as neurodivergent and ensure my approach for each client reaches their communication and creativity needs.
I have completed additional qualifications as a youth and children's counsellor and have a vast amount of experience counselling young people since 2023. This is something I have always wanted to do since starting my private practice, young people can have such a hard time during their secondary school experience, and I believe they need someone to turn to at these tricky times.

Lead
Katie’s role is to lead Discover, our personalised and bespoke tutoring programme. This involves managing the tutoring team, delivery of sessions and working on the growth and development of the programme. She is also responsible for maintaining academic standards across both the Discover and Engage programmes, and ensuring these standards are implemented through the delivery of the Kings’ Trust Qualification which is offered across all programmes.
Katie initially trained as teacher in Further Education and has a degree in History and Politics, as well a PGCE. She has nearly twenty years of teaching experience and has worked in both mainstream and alternative provisions. In her spare time, Katie enjoys being out in nature, travelling and spending time with her family.
